Shore Power

AC electrical service at a dock or RV pad that lets the vehicle run appliances and chargers without battery drain.

Full definition

Shore power is the AC electrical service provided at marina slips and RV storage pads. Boats typically connect via 30-amp or 50-amp twist-lock cords; RVs use the same connectors but at higher amperage for big-rig coaches. Shore power lets the vehicle run refrigerators, battery chargers, climate control, and bilge pumps without draining onboard batteries. Storage facilities classify shore power as a billable amenity, usually $30-$120/month extra depending on amperage. Without shore power, lead-acid batteries discharge in 30-60 days and require a battery tender visit; lithium batteries hold longer but still need active charging during long-term storage.

Pricing note

Shore power add-on typically runs $30-$60/month for 30A, $80-$120/month for 50A.
