Glossary
The process of preparing a boat, RV, or seasonal vehicle for sustained sub-freezing temperatures.
Winterization is the multi-step preparation process to safely store a boat, RV, motorcycle, or other vehicle through sustained sub-freezing temperatures. Standard steps: add fuel stabilizer + run engine 10 minutes, change oil and filter, drain water systems and add RV-grade antifreeze (for boats and RVs), disconnect or tender the battery, lubricate moving parts, treat fuel injectors or carbs, cover or shrink-wrap, lift vehicle off tires (boats on trailers) or rotate tires. Skipping winterization causes engine block cracking, hose splits, fuel-system varnishing, battery sulfation, and tire flat-spotting. Costs $150-$400 typically; takes 1-3 hours for a single boat or RV.
Typical winterization service costs $150-$400 depending on vehicle size and complexity.
