Glossary
Specifically regulating relative humidity inside an indoor storage facility, distinguished from temperature control.
Humidity control is the active regulation of relative humidity inside an indoor storage facility. Distinct from climate control (which adds temperature regulation) and heated storage (which only adds minimum temperature). Target range: 30-60% relative humidity year-round. Methods: refrigerant dehumidifiers (most common, drains condensed water), desiccant dehumidifiers (better for cold-climate facilities below 65°F where refrigerant systems struggle), and integrated HVAC dehumidification (most efficient for new construction). Critical for: classic cars (paint and chrome), wine collections (corks dry above 60% and degrade below 50%), motorcycles (chrome rust), boats (fiberglass blistering and electronics), and any vehicle stored 6+ months. Cheaper humidity-only storage is increasingly popular as a middle tier between basic heated and full climate-controlled.
Humidity-only storage typically runs $200-$450/month; full climate-controlled adds $50-$200/month over that.
