ESIGN Electronic Signature

A legally-binding digital signature on a storage rental agreement, valid under the federal ESIGN Act (15 U.S.C. § 7001) and state UETA equivalents.

Full definition

An ESIGN electronic signature is a typed name, initials, or affirmative click that creates a legally-binding signature on digital documents. Authorized by the federal Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (15 U.S.C. § 7001) of 2000 and state-level Uniform Electronic Transactions Acts. For storage rental agreements, an ESIGN signature requires: (1) the signer's clear intent to sign, (2) consent to use electronic records, (3) attribution to a specific person (typically captured via email verification + IP logging), and (4) record retention. StowHelp's claim and rental flows capture all four elements - typed legal name, ESIGN consent checkbox, IP address, user agent, and timestamp - producing a court-admissible signed document equivalent to ink-on-paper.
