Utah Boat + RV Storage Guide: Willard, Heber City, Farr West (2026)

Mountain-state storage strategy for Willard Bay boats, Deer Creek / Jordanelle boats, Wasatch RVs, and cold-weather winterization.

Utah has three concentrated boating markets (Willard Bay, Deer Creek / Jordanelle, Lake Powell) and one of the coldest winter storage environments in the continental US. If you own a boat, RV, or jet ski along the Wasatch Front, your storage decision comes down to two variables: how close to your favorite launch ramp do you need to be, and how much freeze protection are you willing to pay for?

The three Utah storage clusters

Willard / Farr West / Ogden (Willard Bay + Great Salt Lake access)

Willard Bay is Northern Utah's most popular boating reservoir. Storage within 10 miles is concentrated in three towns: Willard (2 mi to marina, premium pricing), Farr West (8 mi, best value), and Ogden (larger facilities, 20-30 min tow). For owners in Salt Lake County, the drive north is worth the savings: Ogden-area boat storage runs 15-25% less than Park City or Heber storage.

Heber City / Midway (Deer Creek + Jordanelle access)

Heber Valley sits between three boating reservoirs: Deer Creek (8 min), Jordanelle (12 min), and Strawberry (45 min). It's a second-home market, which drives storage demand up and inventory down. Expect premium pricing, especially for covered and indoor slots. Heber City boat storage peaks in summer as Wasatch Back weekenders use the reservoirs heavily from May through October.

Southern Utah (Lake Powell access)

If you keep a boat primarily for Lake Powell trips, storage is usually at the lake (Wahweap, Bullfrog, Hall's Crossing) or in St. George. Most northern Utah owners trailer down on trip days rather than paying for Powell-adjacent storage year-round.

Cold-weather storage strategy

Utah winters are unforgiving. Willard averages 15-20F January lows; Heber City dips below zero multiple times per winter. Full freeze protection requires one of three approaches:

Outdoor-unheated without winterization is a recipe for cracked blocks. Utah facility insurance almost never covers freeze damage from inadequate winterization. If you're parking outdoor, the burden is on you to flush, stabilize, and pull batteries before the first hard freeze (usually mid-November).

Freeze-protection tiers

  1. Outdoor + full winterization: Cheapest path. Mandatory: antifreeze flush of all water systems, fuel stabilizer, battery removal or tender, shrink-wrap or quality cover. Budget $200-$400 for professional winterization on a mid-size boat.
  2. Covered + winterization: Protects from snow load on covers and UV on trailer tires. Still needs full winterization.
  3. Heated indoor (kept above 40F): No winterization required. Most expensive but simplest. Best for wakeboats, MasterCrafts, and anything with heat exchangers.

When to book for Utah storage

Utah's booking calendar is unusual because the market has two peak demand periods:

Summer (June-August) is actually the easiest time to find a short-term spot because most owners have boats on trailers at the water.
